The KARABELA Publishing House was founded in 2006 by Danuta and Wojciech Chojnacki to continue projects started in the 1990s by Pelta W. Chojnacki. We specialize in publications dedicated to the history of the uniform. Ryszard Morawski, a well-known painter of military subjects and an excellent uniforms expert who can be described as a 'contemporary Gembarzewski' is one of our regular collaborators.
Our mission is to popularise the history and traditions of the Polish Armed Forces from 1797 to 1815 - from the formation of the Polish Legions in Italy to Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo.
So far we have published two series of albums dedicated to the Napoleonic era - a period of great importance to the history of the Polish nation. Only in Poland could a talented painter find a supportive publisher to help him fulfill his creative vision. As a result of this ambitious project, every enthusiast of the era can now acquire seven outstanding publications featuring almost 800 colour plates with the most colorful uniforms of the Polish Army throughout the history. According to Alfred Umhey, a renowned uniforms expert, our series are the most complete iconographic study of the uniforms, equipment and armament of the national formations and armies during the Napoleonic campaigns.
The KARABELA Publishing House has promoted its publications at multiple battle re-enactments and anniversaries. In 2008 the album dedicated to Poles in the Imperial Guard was presented at Somosierra Pass. And in 2015 we took part in a unique re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo. History enthusiasts can meet us every year at the History Book Fair in Warsaw and every two years at the prestigious International Tin Figure Fair in Kulmbach, Bavaria.
The KARABELA logo is recognised all over the world. Words of appreciation from our readers give us a lot of satisfaction, but they also inspire us to work even harder in the future. Thank you for visiting our online shop.
